Car sharing works on a subscription basis and allows you to enjoy a car-use service on demand.
This very short-term rental, charged per kilometre or usage time, may be suitable for a number of different types of user:
- If you live in the city you have a whole host of different options when it comes to travel, but sometimes the car is the only effective solution. Rather than buying one, car sharing allows you to easily benefit from the flexibility of a car at any time.
- If you live in the city and have a car in your household, but sometimes you need the benefits of a second car, car sharing can also meet this need.
- If you have a vehicle, but it cannot fulfil certain specific tasks. Car sharing services sometimes offer specific models in their fleet, especially for transporting bulky goods or several people.
What is car sharing?
It is a short-term rental service (even for as little as one hour). Depending on the operator, there is a specific fleet or cars loaned by individuals or companies. There are two different options:
- Pick-up and drop-off at a car sharing point or dedicated parking space (take the car to where it was picked up).
- Pick-up and drop-off in a specific area (on public highways, without having to leave it where it was collected).
You can arrange your booking, pick-up and drop-off online. The vehicle can be accessed using a code on your smartphone.
Rates
The rates vary depending on the operator, subscription plan, vehicle type and local authority. Insurance, taxes and maintenance costs are covered by the operator. If required, you can fill up the vehicle using an operator's payment card. This means that customers do not have to pay for fuel or electricity, which is included in the rental price. In some municipalities, parking is also included.
